MusicLocal Privacy Policy

Last Updated: July 30, 2026

About This Policy

MusicLocal is a public local-music directory operated by MusicLocal, Inc., a Florida nonprofit corporation ("MusicLocal," "we," "us," or "our"). This policy applies to musiclocal.org and the MusicLocal apps for iOS and Android (together, the "Service"). The iOS app may be distributed through an Apple developer account held by Christopher Skene on MusicLocal's behalf.

You can browse public listings without an account. An account lets you propose and edit records, keep drafts, track contributions, like events, and follow your scene.

Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account, we receive information such as your name, email address, profile image, account identifier, and connected sign-in method from Clerk and, when you choose social sign-in, Apple or Google. We use this information to authenticate you, secure your account, and attribute your activity.

Contributions and account activity

We store the records and edits you propose, uploaded images, draft and review status, revision history, likes, notification preferences, community memberships, and settings. Accepted records, accepted revisions, and their media become part of MusicLocal's public directory and edit history. Drafts and review conversations are not public.

Nearby and search

If you enable Nearby, the app reads your foreground location, rounds it to about three decimal places, and uses that rounded anchor on your device to sort events by distance. The coordinates are not sent to MusicLocal or added to your account or analytics; only your Nearby preference is stored on your device. Search text is processed to return matching records; recent searches in the native app are stored on your device.

Analytics and diagnostics

We use PostHog to understand how the Service is used and to improve reliability, usability, growth, and nonprofit impact. This may include pages or screens viewed, clicks and feature interactions, app lifecycle events, browser or device characteristics, approximate network-derived location, and errors, crashes, and performance data. After you sign in, your PostHog profile may include your MusicLocal account identifier, name, and email so we can connect activity across devices, improve the product, troubleshoot problems, and provide support.

The website may use session replay to help us reproduce usability and technical problems. Form inputs are masked; account and security surfaces and uploaded-media previews are blocked; and network request and response contents are not recorded. Native session replay and broad native touch capture are disabled.

Messages to us

If you contact us, we receive the information in your message and the contact details needed to respond.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • operate, secure, and support the Service;
  • authenticate accounts and recover from sign-in problems;
  • save, review, publish, and preserve contributions;
  • provide likes, watchlists, notifications, and personalization;
  • sort nearby events when you ask us to;
  • measure use, diagnose problems, and improve MusicLocal; and
  • comply with law and protect people, MusicLocal, and the public directory.

When We Share Information

We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not use your data for behavioral advertising or disclose it for another company's marketing.

We use service providers to run MusicLocal, including Clerk for authentication, Convex for application data and real-time services, Google Cloud for uploaded media, Cloudflare for website delivery, PostHog for analytics and diagnostics, Mapbox for address search and geocoding, and Apple, Google, and YouTube for features you choose to use. They process information on our behalf or under their own terms as needed to provide those services.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate abuse, or complete a nonprofit reorganization or transfer. Public directory content is, by design, visible to anyone and may be copied or indexed by others.

Retention and Account Deletion

We keep information for as long as reasonably needed to operate the Service, preserve the integrity of the public directory, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the Service. We may keep aggregate or de-identified statistics indefinitely.

When you delete your account, we remove or de-identify profile information and delete private account-side data, unfinished submission records, and account-linked PostHog data through our supported deletion process. Accepted public contributions, accepted revision history, and media needed by those records remain and are attributed to "Deleted contributor." Provider backups and security logs may clear on their ordinary schedules.

MusicLocal is still hardening automated physical cleanup for uploads that were attached only to unfinished submissions. The private product record is removed, but an unreferenced object may remain in storage until that work is complete. You may ask us to locate or remove specific media. See Account Deletion for instructions and the complete deletion contract.

Your Choices

You may browse public content without an account, change foreground location or photo-library access in your device settings, manage your account information through Clerk's account tools, and delete your MusicLocal account from the app. You may also email us to request account deletion or ask about your information.

Children

MusicLocal accounts are not for children under 13. People ages 13 through 17 may create an account only with permission from a parent or legal guardian. Public browsing does not require an account. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it.

Security and U.S. Processing

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. MusicLocal is based in the United States, and information may be processed in the United States and other places where our providers operate.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as MusicLocal changes. We will post the new policy and update the date above. If a change materially affects account holders, we will provide a more prominent notice when reasonably practical.
